Why Thicket

A garden studio that also mows the lawn

We started in 2011 with one truck and a push mower in Eastchester. Today fourteen of us tend Westchester yards — but the care per yard hasn’t changed.

A real designer draws it

Mara Ellison plans every planting by hand — not a salesperson with a clipboard and a stock plant list.

Licensed for tree work

Fully insured with a certified arborist on the crew, so removals near the house are done right and on paper.

Organic lawn options

Compost-based and organic treatment programs — safe for kids, dogs and the bees in your beds.

Dependable weekly crews

Same foreman, same day every week. You’ll learn their names — and they’ll know your gate code.

Real Westchester yards

Before, after, and a season later

Three projects from last year — same homeowners, same lots, photographed once we were done.

Bare yard → planted garden. A new-build lot in Scarsdale, given mixed borders and a shade bed.
Cracked concrete walk → bluestone patio. A Larchmont side yard turned into a sitting terrace.
Overgrown lot → cleared, edged beds. A long-neglected Pelham backyard reclaimed in two visits.
How it works

From first call to a thriving yard

No pressure, no surprise invoices — just three honest steps.

STEP 01

Book a site visit

Call or send the form. We come out, walk the property with you and listen to how you want to use the yard.

STEP 02

We design it & quote it free

Mara drafts the planting plan and we send a clear, itemized estimate — the design and the quote both cost nothing.

STEP 03

We build it & keep it thriving

Our crew installs the yard, then a maintenance plan keeps it looking the way it did on day one.

“Mara redrew our whole front bed and it has bloomed nonstop since May. The crew is quiet, fast and always cleans up. Best money we’ve spent on the house.”

Scarsdale · Garden design

“They built our bluestone patio in four days and it is dead flat — not one wobbly chair two summers on. Fair quote, no upcharges at the end.”

Larchmont · Hardscaping

“Switched our lawn plan to Thicket after a bad year with another company. Grass came back thick and the organic program means the dog can roll in it. One rained-out reschedule, handled fine.”

AK
Anneke Visser
Rye · Lawn-care plan

“Their arborist took down a leaning maple right over our roof without a single broken shingle. Permits, insurance, cleanup — all sorted before I even asked.”

Bronxville · Tree removal

“Fall cleanups are flawless — they come back three times for leaves so I never see a brown lawn. Same two guys every year now, which I love.”

Mamaroneck · Seasonal cleanup

“We had a soggy corner that never drained. Thicket regraded it, set a dry creek bed and now it’s the prettiest spot in the yard. Smart people.”

Good questions

Things homeowners ask us

Do you do one-time cleanups or only ongoing plans?

Both. We’ll happily handle a single spring or fall cleanup with no strings attached. Many homeowners try us with a one-time job and roll into a weekly plan after — but that’s your call, never a requirement.

Who designs the planting — a real designer?

Yes — Mara Ellison, our staff landscape designer, draws every planting plan herself. She visits your property, checks the light and soil, and hand-draws a layout. You get a real plan, not a stock template a salesperson printed.

Are you licensed and insured for tree work?

Fully. Thicket carries general liability and workers’ comp, and tree work is done or supervised by our ISA-certified arborist. We’ll send proof of insurance before any job — never let an uninsured crew near trees by your house.

Do you offer organic lawn treatments?

We do. Alongside our standard program we offer a fully organic, compost-and-microbe-based lawn treatment — safer for kids, pets and pollinators. It costs a little more and takes a season to hit its stride, and we’ll be upfront about both.

What’s the lead time for a patio build?

In peak season, plan on three to six weeks from a signed estimate to the first day on site, then four to eight working days to build, weather permitting. Book in winter and you’ll usually get an earlier spring slot.
