A 38-seat room on Court Street where Marcato Bianco rolls tagliatelle every afternoon and his sister Sofia pours Lambruschi from a single producer in Emilia. Service Tuesday through Sunday.
Marcato opened on a quiet stretch of Court Street in November 2019, four months before the city shut down. We made it through on takeout pasta and Sofia's handwritten notes to neighbors. It is the same room now, with new chairs and the same lights — 38 seats, an open pass, and a wine cabinet built from one tree.
We serve a short menu that changes when something better arrives at the door. The pasta is cut by hand in the morning and again at 4pm. The wine list reads from one valley — Emilia — because we know it well enough to argue about it. Everything else, we keep brief.
Tables 2–6 only. Parties of 7+ please call. The 6 bar seats are walk-in only — first pour is 5:30pm sharp on Tue–Sun.
Marcato grew up in Bologna, learning to roll sfoglie before he could read. He moved to New York at 22, cooked the line at Babbo for four years, then six years at Lilia under Missy Robbins — where, he says, he learned everything about composure.
He opened Marcato in November 2019 with his sister Sofia, who left a job at the Italian consulate to run the front of house. They share an apartment two blocks away. "The wine list is mine. The room is hers. We argue mostly about the lighting."
"The tagliatelle at Marcato is the closest thing in New York to the bowl I had in Bologna in 1998 — and I have been looking."
"Marcato's wine list is stubbornly local to one valley in Emilia, and it is one of the most interesting reads in the city."
"Sofia Bianco runs a 38-seat room with the calm of a chamber concert. The bolognese arrives at the table whispering."
We close to the public for rehearsal dinners, milestone birthdays, and small wedding receptions. Five-course tasting, wine pairings from the Emilia cellar, and one server per six guests.

Yes — six seats at the bar are walk-in only, first-come, first-served. Doors open 5:30pm sharp Tue–Sun. We've had people in line by 4:45pm on Saturdays.
We make a gluten-free chickpea tagliatelle in-house. Note allergens when booking and our chef Marcato will adjust the antipasti and dolci accordingly. We are not a fully GF kitchen.
Children are welcome at the 5:30 and 5:45 seatings. After 7pm the room turns intimate and we recommend an earlier table.
There isn't one. Most guests wear what they wore to dinner with friends — sweaters, jeans, sometimes a jacket. We're a trattoria.
