OUR STORY

We were tired of the water-or-beer choice.

Highball started with two friends — Maya and Theo — at a backyard party in 2021, both nursing the same lukewarm sparkling water because nothing on the table felt like an actual drink. The sodas were too sweet. The mocktails were a sad afterthought.

So they spent a year in a rented kitchen working with a botanist and a flavor house, pressing real fruit, steeping bittering botanicals, and tasting hundreds of versions until a can felt grown-up — bittersweet, dry, complex — without leaning on sugar to get there.

The one thing they refused to compromise on: it had to taste like something you'd choose, not something you'd settle for. Five grams of cane sugar, real botanicals you can name, and nothing you'd need to look up. That's the whole brief.

Is it actually non-alcoholic? +

Completely. Highball contains 0.0% alcohol by volume — it's never fermented and there's no trace amount, unlike some "alcohol-removed" drinks. It's safe and intended for the designated driver, anyone pregnant, sober folks, and anyone who simply doesn't feel like drinking tonight.

How much sugar is in it? +

Five grams of cane sugar per 12oz can, which works out to 35 calories. For comparison, a regular cola has around 39 grams. We use just enough sugar to round off the bitterness of the botanicals — and no artificial sweeteners like sucralose or acesulfame-K to fake the rest.

What are the botanicals — is there caffeine? +

Real cold-pressed botanicals — things like gentian root, hibiscus, fresh basil and bay — steeped for flavor and a pleasant bitterness, plus a touch of pressed fruit. There is zero caffeine in any flavor. Every botanical and fruit is named on the can, so nothing is hiding behind "natural flavors."
