Hana Ito. A photographer, mostly of people at work.

I went to art school for painting and switched to photography after a documentary class in my third year. I make pictures because painting felt too slow for what the world looks like now — most of what I'm trying to record only sits still for half a second.

I shoot on a Leica M11 and a Hasselblad 907X. Mostly natural light, mostly indoors, mostly during the hours other people are working. I print my own portfolio in a basement darkroom in Bushwick and ship test prints from a small studio in Sangenjaya.

For commissioned work I prefer two days on site, no stylist, no second body, one assistant. If a brief says "high energy" I will gently steer you toward something quieter.
