Nine timber rooms at sixteen hundred metres, where the road ends and the forest begins. Wool blankets, a fire that never quite goes out, and silence you can hear.
Nine rooms, three cabins, one long table. Everything is timber, wool, and stone — nothing here is trying to be more than it is.
The original keeper’s room. A stone fireplace, a king bed under the eaves, and a window seat that frames the whole valley.
Half-board comes with the room. One long table, dinner at half past seven, whatever the forest and the cellar offered up that week.
From a one-hour loop to the all-day ridge walk, maps at reception.
Twenty minutes up the path. Towels by the door, bravery optional.
No town for thirty kilometres. The reason half our guests come back.
“We hiked all day and ate like kings at night. The fire was still going when we came down for coffee at six.”
“My phone had no signal for three days and it was the best thing that’s happened to me all year.”
“The cabin, the stove, the snow falling outside the window. I have never slept so well in my life.”
The road runs out twelve kilometres before the lodge. We meet every guest at the gate in the old Land Rover — tell us your train and we’ll be there.
