Onboard a maker in 28 minutes. Audit them in 28 milliseconds.

A KYC funnel that does Tier 1 verification synchronously, escalates to Enhanced Due Diligence only when risk flags hit, and produces the 1099-K at year-end without you assembling it.

"We built Trove on Stripe Connect first. By month four we'd written 14,408 lines of glue code for KYC, 1099-K, multi-currency, and dispute splits. We tore it all out for Conduit in a weekend and our payout setup completion went from 71% to 92%."

Questions a marketplace engineer would ask.

How does this compare to Stripe Connect, concretely? +
Stripe Connect bundles acquiring (card processing) with the marketplace plumbing. Conduit only sells the marketplace plumbing — splits, KYC, payouts, 1099-K, multi-currency — and runs on top of any acquirer (Stripe, Adyen, Worldpay, Checkout.com). You keep your existing acquirer's interchange-plus rate. The savings come from (1) flat marketplace fee instead of Stripe's 0.25%/0.4% per-payout, (2) bring-your-own acquirer negotiated rates, and (3) no per-account-active fees. At $14M/mo GMV the all-in cost drops from $3.20 to $3.10 per $100 charge — and you can mix acquirers per geography for further savings.
KYC tier support — Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 with EDD? +
Yes, all three. Tier 1 (name + DOB + last 4 SSN + address) runs synchronously through LexisNexis InstantID + Socure in ~280ms — sufficient for most small sellers. Tier 2 (Plaid bank account verification + 1-cent micro-deposit fallback) takes 0–2 days depending on bank. Tier 3 (Enhanced Due Diligence) auto-triggers on risk flags (PEP hits, transaction velocity, sanctioned country, structuring patterns) and queues for our compliance team to clear within 4 hours. You can also force-escalate any seller manually from the dashboard. EDD includes document upload (ID front/back + selfie liveness) and source-of-funds questionnaire.
Do you handle 1099-K filing for US sellers? +
Yes, end-to-end. We collect W-9s during onboarding (W-8BEN for non-US sellers), track gross payment volume and transaction count per seller throughout the year, and file 1099-K with the IRS plus 41 participating states + DC on January 31. The current federal threshold is $5,000 in gross payments for tax year 2026 (we track lower state thresholds — e.g. Massachusetts is still $600). Sellers see their 1099-K in their Conduit-powered dashboard the same day. If a seller fails backup withholding requirements (bad TIN match), we apply the 24% withhold automatically and remit to IRS quarterly.
Dispute / chargeback flow for split payments — who eats the cost? +
By default the dispute is debited from the original seller's balance (since they shipped the goods). Platform fee and tax escrow portions are also clawed back proportionally. If the seller doesn't have enough balance, we follow your platform's pre-configured fallback: (a) charge the seller's linked bank via ACH debit, (b) charge a stored card if collected at onboarding, or (c) escalate to platform absorption with notification. Evidence submission is handled by the seller through their dashboard or programmatically via API. Win rate on Conduit-managed disputes is 38% across the network, vs ~30% industry average — driven by auto-populated evidence (shipping tracking, IP match, AVS match).
Which countries can sellers be in and which can platforms be in? +
Platforms (Conduit customers) must be incorporated in the US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, or Singapore. Sellers can be in 184 countries — full list at conduit.com/coverage. Payouts to sellers are supported in 84 currencies via local rails: ACH/RTP in the US, SEPA Instant in EU, Faster Payments in UK, Interac in Canada, PIX in Brazil, UPI in India, PayNow in Singapore, etc. Sanctioned countries (Cuba, Iran, NK, Syria, Russia, plus regional restrictions on Crimea/DPR/LPR) are auto-blocked at onboarding and cross-checked at every payout. Cross-border FX is locked at 0.48% above mid-market.
